Careful Management and Long-Range Planning

I am writing in support of Cathy Iino for re-election as first selectman in Killingworth. I admire her on so many levels and have worked with her on several projects through the Killingworth Women’s Organization.

I have always found Cathy’s leadership style to be nonpartisan and her outreach to include all the groups that together make Killingworth a community. She encourages volunteerism and makes volunteers feel appreciated. Cathy herself volunteers when she can and is certainly a presence at most town events. I attend many of them myself and know that for a fact.

A consistent concern of all town residents is the tax rate. In the eight years she has served as first selectman, Cathy has shown a full appreciation for that concern and an understanding of the budget process. Through careful management, the seeking of available grants, and long-range planning, the town budget has increased at a slower rate than the rate of inflation. In planning budgets, she has also kept a sharp eye on the budget proposals coming out of Hartford and how they might impact small municipalities like ours.

I can fully support Cathy because I know what she does for this town and the civil, calm way in which she does it. I encourage your readers to join me in supporting Cathy’s re-election as first selectman on Nov. 7.
