Eloquent as an Advocate

In my opinion it was obvious during the Republican Town Committee caucus that First Selectman Joe Mazza was endorsing the Democratic party nominee. I do have concerns that Mr. Mazza thought the endorsed candidate can carry the support of the majority of Guilford voters. I’m inclined to believe that will not happen.

As of July 20, many registered Republicans believe that Mr. Mazza has given the Democratic nominee his support. If so, there are no words to express my disappointment in Mr. Mazza. In my opinion he has placed a candidate in vulnerable political situation.

Ken MacKenzie can take pride that in losing the nomination by a few votes, he conducted himself in a very professional way. In his speech listing his qualifications and experiences in finance and fiscal matters that far outweigh the Democratic candidate Matt Hoey’s, Ken MacKenzie was eloquent as an advocate to improve Guilford’s economic growth through proper budgets, fiscal policy, and control of surpluses—not the Democratic monetary rule of three- to five and more percent increases per year, placing an increase burden on the people of the town that is reflected in purchasing prices at small local retail stores.
