Vision and Energy

It’s been a while since I’ve written a letter to the editor; I’ve certainly have had many written about me over the past 14 years. For those that don’t know me, I’m Willie Fritz, I have lived in Clinton with my wife, Sondra, and three boys—Will, AJ, and Brady—since 2000. As soon as I moved here, I immersed myself into serving the community. I eventually, after two years on Public Works Commission and two years on the Planning & Zoning Commission, was elected as first selectman in 2005. I dedicated my life to Clinton for the next 10 years, sacrificing family for the greater good, Clinton. In those 10 years, our town went through a period of growth, improvements, and revitalization. Unfortunately, that has stopped. There has been no action or initiatives taken on Unilever or Bostich, the old Morgan has been left to rot because of a lack of direction from our current leader, and our downtown revitalization has ground to a halt.

Grants for improvements from the state no longer come because the last grant I received in 2015 for $500,000 in improvements to the Ethel Peters complex hasn’t been used—way to much foot-dragging and risk management instead of energy and enthusiasm. We lost the Fireworks/Summerfest because apparently the higher ups didn’t see the benefit of bringing thousands of people to Clinton. The list goes on and on and its only been two years.

Let’s jump start Clinton. I’m in a Democratic primary on Sept. 12 to stay on the Board of Selectmen, and my dear friend and fellow selectman Lynn Pinder is primarying to run for first selectman. I encourage all Democrats to come out on Sept. 12 to support Lynn and me as we try to bring the vision and the energy back to our town.
