Future is Too Important

We are a family of five and have lived in Clinton for five years. It is our hometown now, where we are raising our three children who attend the public schools.

In our lives and in our community, we realize it is important to be both efficient and wise when balancing our immediate needs and long-range planning. Our town government needs and deserves a full-time professional administrator, trained in the workings of a municipality in the state of Connecticut.

Because the Clinton Board of Selectmen voted in July not to allow citizens the opportunity to revise our town charter and hire a town manager, we are supporting the petition drive to call for a special referendum on this matter. Clinton’s future is too important to rely solely on volunteer leadership.

We believe in the value of volunteers, such as elected officials, as well as educated executives in the operation of our town.

Actually, my husband, Brian, and I both serve as volunteer appointed members of town commissions, and, with major state budget cuts coming down, we also see the importance of hiring a savvy town manager to help us navigate in the challenging days ahead.

We encourage our fellow citizens to sign a petition in the next week that will force an important all-town vote on the matter. Petitions are available at tables outside of the Clinton Stop & Shop.
