Proven Fiscal Conservative

How do we know if what elected officials say is the truth or not? The only way that I know is to follow their statements and record, and analyze the outcomes. Other than that, it’s all campaign promises. What is on the record is that, during the 2016 town budget process, Ken MacKenzie identified cuts to the first budget including town contingencies, Board of Education capital fund reduction, and reduced salaries based on retirements. No other town official promoted these ideas; some instead spoke of the 1994 budget where the band program was cut, standard fear mongering. But in 2016, residents rolled the dice, voted “No” to the first two budgets, and upon passage of the third budget, $1.5 million was cut, yet the band still thrives, our schools are in better physical shape than they have been in years, and our teachers are sending Guilford’s students to Ivy League schools. Maybe I am missing something, but I do not see any reduction in town services.

This is why Ken MacKenzie needs to be our first selectman.

The town needs its Republican voters to attend the Republican primary on Tuesday, Sept. 12 and vote for MacKenzie. Every vote really does matter as his opponent Bob Hartmann won the GOP caucus by only six votes. I encourage your readers to come to the polls on Sept. 12 and vote MacKenzie, someone who grew up in and is raising his family in Guilford, has been in management at J.P. Morgan and Citigroup, has a track record of winning elections, and is a proven fiscal conservative.
