Motives Are Honorable
I am writing as a registered Guilford Republican to wholeheartedly support Ken MacKenzie as our Republican candidate for first selectman. Ken has consistently followed responsible, fiscally conservative principles since he was elected to the Board of Finance, and he has done so with both an open mind and an open heart.
One of the first things Ken said when he joined the Republican Town Committee was how distressed he was that so many of the people he grew up with in Guilford could not afford to live and raise their own families here. He is grateful that his own career on Wall Street gave him the means to buy a house here and pay the property taxes, but he is also painfully aware that many other people are struggling to do the same.
I have met very few people whose motives for public service are as honorable as Ken MacKenzie’s. He puts in long hours studying town finances to find savings that will ease the tax burden, without sacrificing the high quality town services and the public schools his own children attend here. When he joins a civic organization, he doesn’t do it to find new clients, but out of a sense of moral obligation. As a result, he is one of the few elected officials in town who is respected by people from all political parties, as well as independent voters.
Ken MacKenzie has earned the vote of every Guilford Republican to be our candidate for first selectman in the primary on Sept. 12.
