Momentary Act of Compassion

Here on the shoreline we depend on the two-lane Boston Post Road as our main local artery for work, shopping, and emergency.

A number of years ago I noticed and adopted a unique practice of local drivers: confronted with emergency vehicles from front or rear, simply pulling over ’til they are passed. .

Emergency personnel driving large and clumsy fire trucks and ambulances are far too often frustrated in their efforts by cars and trucks sitting like bricks, bumper to bumper, blocking their efforts to save lives and property.

I would like to recommend that more of us adopt this momentary act of compassion for those in danger and suggest that appropriate signage be installed asking our visitors join us in making the Post Road a more successful lifeline for the shoreline.
