Discovering the Fascinating History

Essex Historical Society (EHS) extends heartfelt appreciation to everyone who made our third annual Walking Weekend such a success! Composed of four separate walking tours over three days this past July, attendees combine a little exercise with local history to better understand their communities.

EHS would like to thank our knowledgeable tour guides, Brenda Milkofsky, Chris Pagliuco, Mary Ann Pleva, and Brien Riedell, for sharing their time and talent to lead its tours. For financial support in the development and writing of the new Centerbrook tour, EHS heartily thanks the Community Foundation of Middlesex County (CFMC). CFMC’s involvement helped us extend these tours into little-known sections of this village’s history to reveal its unique blend of agricultural and industrial development along the Falls River.

EHS welcomed record-breaking crowds and made many, many new friends. Plus, our walkers discovered the fascinating history of all three of Essex’s villages, each with their own distinct character. Thank you to everyone who helps EHS live up to its mission of “Engaging and Inspiring the Community: Essex; Ivoryton; Centerbrook.” Just because Walking Weekend is over, doesn’t mean the fun has to end. Selected walking tours are always available. Hope to see your readers soon on those historic streets!
