Complete Lack of Transparency

On July 11, I attended the Board of Education (BOE) meeting to voice my overwhelming concerns about Chairman John Finkle and a majority of the BOE. The BOE meeing held on June 21 proved that the chairman was verbally disrespectful and threatening to fellow BOE member Christine Maisano. This barrage took place while other BOE members sat silently, and what is more concerning is that Vice-chair Ronald DeNuzzo is a member of law enforcement and sat idly, allowing the harassment to continue.

The public outside of the room heard screaming, yelling, and saw the departure of Maisano who was berated then was laughed at by Business Manager Jim Farrell. It is clear that Maisano, who raised questions about not only the validity of credentials regarding the interim superintendent of schools applicant but also the underhanded plan of the chairman and other BOE members, put a halt to the blatant nepotism and corruption in the works.

As a parent and taxpayer, I felt it imperative to attend the meeting and comment for the betterment of our schools. While I was speaking, BOE members present found it necessary to laugh, chuckle, text, and ignore my concerns. One member even asked if they had to listen to me. Once the meeting adjourned, another comment made was that this is why the BOE cannot hire a super, with having to deal with crazy people. I was then told to leave by Jim Farrell as the members watched and went along with his absurd and unprofessional behavior.

Our school system and the success of our students is important to all parents of East Haven. The poor behavior and complete lack of transparency, ethics, and morals on the BOE is beyond evident and it is time for a change.
