Complete Lack of Respect

Growing up I was always taught to respect and show dignity to others, even when the opponent’s position is in direct opposition to my own personal thoughts and views. The title of chairman of a board or commission comes with distinction and it is an honor to serve in such capacity. It means you stand for something, and more important, have shown the ability work with a team in a respectful way. In recent days, we have seen quite the opposite of that role with our current chairman of the Board of Education, John Finkle.

Disagreements will come and conflicts will arise; this is when leadership is most needed. Responding with yelling and in a threating manner never wins the day. The display of anger, rage, and a complete lack of respect cause one to wonder, why? Is there a hidden agenda or ulterior motive? These acts of reacting in a threatening manner are an abuse of power and should be investigated.

I am sure the students of the town as well as the parents have been taught to be kind and rise above when facing opposition. Unity and respect are obtained by showing both toward others. In serving on commissions I have always held the dignity for members in high regard.

In the end, the ultimate goal is to win the day for our students and children and in doing so should set an example for them. I would hope the current elected members of the Board of Education ask for the chairman to step down immediately and resign from his elected position. He is unfit to lead and has abused his position in a threatening manner. This is the only ethical thing to do. We deserve better and, more important, the children of East Haven deserve better.
