A Tremendous Asset

At the July 13, meeting, the undersigned members of the Economic Development Commission (EDC) voted to express their support of the Madison Beach Hotel in regard to the current litigation referenced as Pfister v. Madison Beach Hotel, LLC.

The EDC monitors economic conditions and prepares recommendations to strengthen and diversify the town’s tax base. The success of EDC is measured by the town’s ability to strengthen its tax base while preserving the quality of life in Madison. The EDC believes that the Madison Beach Hotel demonstrates that economic development goals can be achieved while still preserving the quality of life in Madison.

The Madison Beach Hotel is a tremendous asset to the Town of Madison. One of the largest taxpayers locally, the Madison Beach Hotel also contributes in excess of $400,000 annually to the State of Connecticut in state occupancy tax payments. It employs more than 150 permanent and seasonal employees, with an annual payroll totaling more than $2.8 million. It is a key driver of Madison’s tourist industry, bringing visitors to Madison who also patronize, and circulate dollars through our local shops, restaurants, and other businesses. Finally, the Madison Beach Hotel regularly supports numerous charitable and community organizations with significant financial contributions.

With regard to the current litigation, the EDC supports the hotel’s ability to rent the town-owned property known as the Grassy Strip in order to host a series of free public concerts during the summer months. The concerts draw residents and visitors to the West Wharf area and the family-friendly focus aligns with the EDC’s recent efforts to showcase Madison as a wonderful community to raise a family.

We encourage others to let their voices be heard and join the EDC in publicly expressing their support of the Madison Beach Hotel.
