Voters Should Make the Decision

Early this month, the Clinton Charter Reform Coalition was formed to allow Clinton voters the opportunity to consider and vote upon changes to our charter.

For 16 months, the Charter Revision Committee researched, evaluated, and discussed all aspects of the current charter and how it works—and doesn’t work—to benefit our town. After much debate, the bipartisan committee voted to present a document to the Board of Selectmen (BOS) on June 20 that recommends the hiring of both a town manager and town planner, among other smaller changes in wording. On July 5, the BOS voted 3-2 to prevent the voters from being able to vote on the entire proposal.

The bipartisan Clinton Charter Reform Coalition is circulating a petition asking for a referendum to be held for the purpose of voting on all the amendments to the Charter of the Town of Clinton as proposed on June 20. It endorses the idea that the voters should make the decision on the future of our town, not merely five people.
