Takes the Whole Town

It takes the whole town to make the Scranton Library Friends’ Used Book Sale a success. Along with all the volunteers who worked at the sale, we thank the following people and businesses who so kindly offered their help. Essex Bank, Vista, Tuxis Lumber, Willoughby’s, RJ Julia’s, Starbucks, Nick’s, Roberts Grocery, Stop and Shop, Sound Body, and Tuxis Laundramat all displayed flyers about the sale.

Getting out the word about the sale makes all the difference in the world. Friends and Co. and Jessica Littell and Gerry Birnbaum allowed the Friends to display signs on their properties, and Charlie Iselin, of Iselin Tree Experts, put up our banner up over Route 79. Cheryl Rabb put a banner up on the marquee at the Madison Art Cinema, space owned by Davis Realty.

Captain Joseph Race of the Madison Police Department lent traffic cones and signs to help keep buyers safe when crossing the road, and Austin Hall at the Senior Center supplied stanchions so lines were orderly inside.

The Lions Club supplied a tent for paperback book display, and oversaw its installation and take-down. We appreciate the loan of these items and the work involved in managing the tent.

Sales were helped by sturdy bags from Stop & Shop, Sherry Packevicz at Key Bank generously supplied equipment for use by our cashiers, and American Legion Griswold Post #79 graciously allowed us the use of its hall for a week.

Last but not least, thanks go to all who donated books for the sale, to the many volunteers who worked so many hours at the sale, and to the friendly shoppers who came and bought books. Proceeds from the sale pay for many programs for all ages at the library.
