The Serious Business

For many years my father, the late Vincent Gagliardi, was a member of the East Haven Board of Education (BOE). For several of those years he served as chairperson. He would be absolutely appalled at the manner in which the current board is conducting business, especially because their decisions effect our most vulnerable citizens, the children.

First the BOE decided not to renew the contract of Portia Bonner, the best qualified superintendent East Haven has had. Then they proceeded to conduct an internal search for her replacement. This move just screams nepotism and, according to recent publicity, this seems to be the case.

It’s about time for this board to get down to the serious business for which they were elected and stop playing Russian roulette with our children’s education. Maybe it’s also time for the voters of East Haven to consider replacing these self-serving individuals with others who truly have the best interests of our children at heart.

Town elections are just around the corner. I encourage your readers to make their voices heard and make their vote count in November.
