Sincerest Thanks

The Madison Historical Society would like to express its thanks to the community for supporting its Tour of Remarkable Homes and for recognizing our centennial during the July Fourth celebration.

We are grateful for the realtor firms who have sponsored the tour for five years, the homeowners who opened their homes, and the dedicated committee who worked tirelessly. Particular thanks to Mickey Hawkes of Hawkes Golf Vehicles for donating a golf cart to transport visitors.

The MHS was privileged to be grand marshal of the Exchange Club’s July Fourth parade. We were truly touched by this recognition from a fellow civic organization. We are grateful to Madison Cultural Arts for celebrating our milestone birthday with a musical tribute. A debt of thanks is owed to our friends at the Madison Rotary Club and at the Charlotte L. Evarts Memorial Archives for honoring us in their parade float and truck—and to People’s United Bank for offering us a venue at the bank for a monthlong exhibit created by Tricia Royston and Rick Camp.

We also offer sincerest thanks to the archives for its help with our downtown images project, made possible by extraordinary volunteers Nancy Smith, Nancy Farnan, Nancy Bastian, Rick Camp, Bob Gundersen, Doe Boyle, and Jennifer Simpson. We appreciate the enthusiasm of the businesses that allowed us to display these images, and we thank Kenny Evarts of the Seashore Construction Company, who generously funded this endeavor. Kenny and his grandson Gregg Dowler also shared their horse-drawn wagon with us in the parade. Finally, Rob Stevens moved heaven and earth to print and mount our posters with his usual grace and kindness.

Last, I am indebted to our board of trustees who give their time and energy to the programs and events we sponsor.
