A 21st-Century Library

All Branford residents have a wonderful opportunity to support the Blackstone Library’s renovation and expansion project, which involves building improvements that will transform a library designed in the 19th century as a 19th-century library into a 21st-century library that is more responsive to the needs of the times.

Re-purposing a variety of spaces will provide a better location and expanded space for children and teens, expanded access to technology throughout the facility, expanded meeting spaces for community use, and a new entryway and lobby entrance from the parking area. These are just some of the major improvements that will enhance the Blackstone’s capacity to serve increasing numbers of Branford citizens more effectively, all while maintaining the iconic and beautiful historical features the building is known for.

In addition to a state grant and support from the Town of Branford, a capital campaign to raise $800,000 for the project is underway. To help reach our goal, the Branford Community Foundation (BCF) is offering a matching grant—when you make a gift to the Blackstone Campaign of up to $1,000, BCF will match your gift, doubling your contribution to the campaign! The foundation will match up to a total of $100,000 worth of individual gifts to the campaign.

This is a great opportunity for Branford citizens to join their friends and neighbors in supporting this crucial project and help claim the entire matching grant from BCF. To make a gift to the campaign for the Blackstone, contribution envelopes are available at the library, or donors can make a secure gift online at blackstonelibrary.org/campaign.

The Blackstone Library is an outstanding community resource that deserves everyone’s support.
