Inspiring Yet Frugal

It was a pleasure to see the inspiring yet frugal proposed design for the new Chester Library and the excellent integration with the park, allowing seamless flow into both the playground on the children’s side and an outdoor reading area from the adult side. Having the view up the hill with a natural amphitheater toward the street will also present many opportunities for activities such as poetry readings or concerts, and the integration with the old trolley line allowing a walk to downtown is also a nice touch.

Even though we are on a fixed income, I find the cost (seems like about $200 per year per taxpayer for the 30-year bond) to be very reasonable for such a valuable investment for the town. Young families are looking for towns with resources for children, and everyone likes having free books, a community room with programs for young and old, and another downtown destination.

Enticing community resources are likely to increase the tax base by attracting new residents, and the activities at the library get others to see what a great town we have. I am hopeful that we can get this approved and moving so we can utilize the grant we have, and get a bond at current low interest rates.
