Think Twice

Prior to passing the budget at its meeting on April 26, the Town Council held five workshops and two public hearings. I was shocked to learn that no one recalls seeing mayoral candidate Sal Maltese at a single one of those meetings.

Leading a town isn’t a spectator sport or a hobby. It’s something you commit to. If I wanted residents to take me seriously as a mayoral candidate, I would have made it a point to be at every one of those hearings, or at least most of them. Opting not to voice your opinion at public hearings or participate in the Town Council’s review and adoption of an $89 million budget is a sign of poor leadership and poor decision making, especially for someone exploring a run for mayor.

Residents should think twice about taking Mr. Maltese seriously when it’s questionable whether he’s really taking the prospect of being mayor seriously.
