Show Your Patriotism

The Memorial Day Parade will be held on May 29. I would particularly like to remind our usual participants that we are counting on them to be there and to show their usual patriotism. So, boy scouts, girl scouts, firemen, policemen, etc., come on down.

The parade will form from 9 to 9:45 a.m. in the Stop & Shop parking lots. There will be persons assigned to help each unit find their place to await marching off and also when to march off, and how to do so. Look for some very “official looking” volunteers carrying a piece of paper called “The Line of March”; they will help you get set.

The parade will follow the usual route this year, from Samson Rock Drive, down Route 1 to the Green for ceremony #1, then down Route 1 to West Cemetery for ceremony #2 where, at the conclusion of the ceremony, the parade participants will be dismissed.

There will be a ceremony #3 at West Wharf, at approximately 12:15 p.m. The veterans will be bussed there from the Legion Hall for that ceremony.

The main ceremony will take place on the Green as always. There will be addresses by Madison’s First Selectman Tom Banisch; Rich Nichols, commander of American Legion Post 79; and Larry Brundrett, commander of VFW Post 2096.

All veterans are cordially invited to come down to join us in this parade. Those who can still get into their old uniform should wear it, or any part of it that they can still fit into. Those who are unable to walk should come anyway, we have cars ready to transport them on the parade route and we truly would appreciate their presence. For further information on participating in the parade, call Donna Farrell at 203-804-2693.
