Such a Moving Event

Imagine meeting Emily Dickinson—the “Belle of Amherst”—the 19th-century poet who is among our greatest and most cherished. Imagine learning of her upbringing, the inspirations and source of her amazing verse, her successes and failures, and her loves and losses from the poet herself. I did at the program, “Inside Emily Dickinson: Her Poetry and Her Life” by Ginger Grace at the Hagaman Memorial Library on Saturday.

The dazzling program allowed autobiography to slide into verse and was such a moving event. Ms. Grace was delightful, sensitive, and full of joy. I have never enjoyed a dramatic presentation more. Interactive breaks allowed the audience to brainstorm delicious words about significant events in their lives and then create two-line verses. Thanks go to Cynthia Gwiazda at the Hagaman for a stellar presentation!
