Has Paid Dividends

As an interested and active member of the Clinton community, I took the opportunity to attend last week’s public hearing regarding Clinton’s Town Budget. I am confident that the boards and commissions, especially the police and Board of Education, examined thoroughly all aspects of their budgets and made sound decisions. Tough decisions and difficult cuts had to be made and were. I am pleased that the Board of Finance returned dollars to the police budget to keep its staff intact, and as Police Commissioner Phil Sengle pointed out, its budget is still under last year’s. Superintendent of Schools Maryann O’Donnell was also able to provide substantial savings, at the last moment, for further educational reductions, through active negotiation. Both exhibited a major concern for the well being of the Clinton townspeople.

Voters should not punish any board or commission for doing its due diligence in taking the town’s best interests into consideration. This is a prime example that the faith we have in them has paid dividends.

I hope your readers will keep in mind, when it comes time to vote, the importance of every vote and how theirs will impact Clinton’s future. We all want Clinton to prosper and we need to send a clear message to those that will consider moving to Clinton, young homeowners and businesses alike, that we value our police and education.

It’s our turn now to make the tough decision. A “Yes” vote today will help to bring our taxes down tomorrow.
