The Smallest Segment

After having read the March 30 letter “Now is the Time” by John Conroy regarding a pool/hockey rink for Guilford, I say the time was back when the new high school was in its planning stage. Back then I wrote letters to this paper making the case for the inclusion of these two items. Not one of the sports parents picked up the thread by writing in support of my proposal. At the time, I made the case for getting up-front rental agreements signed by neighboring town’s teams, thereby defraying some of the cost of building and maintenance of such projects. As a real side benefit, the town residents would get to use these facilities.

As we all are aware, we have copper flashing on the outside of the high school and a hydraulic stage in the theater department. A better use of tax dollars would have been a pool/hockey rink that would have generated revenue. And what about the new high school gym that the taxpayers underwrote? Is the public invited to use this facility?

In my opinion, Guilford spends the most to benefit the smallest segment of the population.
