Bittersweet News

As president of the Old Saybrook Main Street Business Association, I feel it is my responsibility to deliver bittersweet news to our community.

As you may know, the Main Street Business Association was disbanded in 2016. It was founded in 1978 to promote businesses on Main Street. The association was extremely successful in its 38-year-long mission because of its dedicated members, association leadership including Treasurer John Beatty, and a supportive small town community led by the First Selectman’s Office, the Police Department, and all of our dedicated volunteers.

The town became accustomed to many of our annual events such as the Winter Stroll. This event, while one of our past successes, has become increasingly more challenging. Difficulties with logistics and planning make this event no longer feasible.

I would like to thank the Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce for stepping in to ensure the stroll occurred last year.

I am pleased to report that the Old Saybrook Chamber will continue to work tirelessly to promote all businesses in town, while using the successes of our past, to create new successful events in the future. Names may change, events will differ, but the mission to support local businesses and enhance our small town quality of life will continue with new found energy and enthusiasm.
