A Much Better Location

I found the March 16 article “Another Take on CVS” to be rather amusing. I was present at a public hearing where an agent for CVS’ proposed relocation stated the Friendly’s property had been targeted until a Clinton selectman contacted them and steered them [to the corner parcel that has lots owned by Clinton Selectman John Giannotti and two others]. I think we can all agree it is completely improper for any selectman to use his office in this manner. I believe it’s common knowledge that corruption is rampant in Clinton and the community is sick of it.

Giannotti’s corner is already plagued with traffic congestion all summer long. The new enlarged train station will only increase that traffic. It was incomprehensible and improper for traffic experts to disregard this fact. The Planning & Zoning Commission was absolutely correct to find the traffic study noncredible.

Giannotti states the plan addressed everything the community requested. Yet, he acknowledges the public opposition to the destruction of historic property on his corner. Is it really so hard for him to understand the historical significance or is it simply inconvenient for him to maintain the building and develop around it? I believe it’s the latter.

The consensus is the available Friendly’s corner would make a much better location for CVS. I certainly hope CVS has gotten the message and will reconsider, rather than beat a dead horse.

If Giannotti really feels his position as a selectman has adversely affected the public’s opinion of his plans, he is certainly free to resign from the Board of Selectmen, but no one should hold their breath waiting for that to happen.
