Leverage of the Law

I am delighted to read Kathy Connolly’s March 2 article, “Beware the First Leaves of Spring.” She shares the latest science-based information on these plants, which are destroying Connecticut’s stunning natural environment.

Currently, there is a state regulated list of banned plants that can no longer be sold, planted, or moved (with the exception of removing and destroying). Unfortunately, Japanese Barberry is not on the list. It is even more unfortunate that the biggest, most popular nurseries in the surrounding Guilford/Madison area continue to sell these despoilers, as well as others. It should not take the leverage of the law to make nurseries do the right thing.
