Charming Stories Are Gone

When my grandson was a little boy he lived in Washington D.C., but spent parts of the summer in Guilford. He learned to play tennis and golf through the town programs, sports he still enjoys in college.

During his school year I would send him postcards marked “Guilford Crime” and I would cut out lovely animal stories and funny reasons that people called the police. He loved it. The other day I thought I would send him a “Guilford Crime” postcard just for fun. The sad news is that the charming stories of Guilford are gone, replaced by real crime that could happen in a big city. It made me sad.
