Voice Our Opposition

Another application to demolish 3 historic properties in Clinton town center and construct an ugly CVS was unanimously denied by the Planning & Zoning Commission. Part of the subject property is owned by Selectman John Giannotti. The commission must have been moved by the passionate opinions expressed at public hearings. Clearly, the Clinton community feels strongly that this location—already the busiest, most dangerous intersection on Route 1, plagued with traffic congestion all summer long—is completely inappropriate. The demolition of those historic properties certainly would’ve violated the town’s Plan of Conservation and Development, which clearly identifies as major objectives public safety and the protection of Clinton’s history and small town character. The available Friendly’s corner would make a much better location for CVS.

Particularly as a selectman, Giannotti should listen to the people he represents, instead of ignoring them and continuing to try to push this terrible plan through. As we saw in the infamous Facebook photo of Giannotti with fellow Selectman Lynn Pinder and Police Commissioner Kim Neri-Simoncini, their posing with their thumbs down with a stolen CTA sign informing residents of an important public hearing was juvenile and stupid, but it was also very revealing. These public officials obviously think they can get away with anything they want. Another selectman, Willie Fritz, told the commission he was in favor of the CVS plan. Then again, he was in favor of Global’s plan to construct a monstrous propane terminal in town.

We must continue to attend public hearings and voice our opposition to these shenanigans. Then, when we get the chance, we must vote out all corrupt public officials.
