An Exciting Outdoor Adventure

Since its inception in 2010, the Bike and Pedestrian Alliance of Clinton (BPAC) has been working to make Clinton a more bike and pedestrian-friendly town. Our latest project offers one of the most exciting and far-reaching opportunities thus far. BPAC is proposing a Clinton Greenway, which will run from Madison to Westbrook, south of Route 1, using the old electric trolley line, quiet historic streets, and two land trust properties. We are creating a six mile trail that will cross three rivers and travel over marshes from one end of town to the other.

This beautifully scenic route would be within a half mile of water at all times and will include the town dock. We’ve spoken to marina owners on both Grove Street and Commerce Street about the addition of a “blueway” to this greenway proposal and they are enthusiastic about the addition. Both the greenway and possible blueway will showcase Clinton’s unique coastal beauty and provide an exciting outdoor adventure for tourists, local bicyclists, fitness buffs, and families in search of a special outing.

On Monday, Feb. 27, BPAC will hold a community meeting at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of Clinton’s Henry Carter Hull Library in order to promote support and address concerns of this greenway proposal before presenting it to the Board of Selectman for approval. We look forward to receiving feedback from the town on this exciting project.
