Common, Shared Beliefs

While I have never written an editorial to the Courier, I felt unbelievably compelled to respond to the Feb. 2 letter “Question the Motives” [by David Egan]. I have incredible admiration for all the clergy who came together, amongst their differences, to profess a message of kindness, understanding, respect and peace. It was a message built on common, shared beliefs versus differences.

Their message was in defense of all people, regardless of who they voted for, who is in office, and who will be in the future. Statistics from police are not the only indicator of hate in our community. Just look to the article of destruction done to the Grass Island Shack. Hate and intolerance come in many forms.

I myself feel truly blessed for all those clergy who spoke out, asking our community to be the ripple in an ocean that can expand beyond town boundaries. While I don’t share the views of “Question the Motives,” like our clergy, I pray for him, and our entire community to look for common beliefs versus difference and to find peace and hope.
