Not Prudent Policy

It started lot quicker than I imagined. First the Board of Education (BOE) was going to add an additional $6,000 to its budget in support, and now talk about a new facility being built in Bittner Park for the swim team and other interested swimmers [Jan. 26 letter to the editor “An Excellent Starting Point” by Bill Summa]. In that same edition of the newspaper, an article [“A Tough Year Ahead”] stated there would be a loss of $309,000 in state funds to Guilford.

The thought of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a facility in this economic environment is beyond my comprehension. For the BOE to even entertain this idea is not prudent fiscal policy. Last year’s budget needed three referendums to pass and that was without the loss of state funds and frivolous spending.

To put this idea to referendum is a waste of taxpayers’ money.
