A Much-Needed Renovation

Scranton Library Friends, Inc., provides funding to Scranton Memorial Library for programs and events enjoyed by Madison residents every year. In 2016, the library offered 167 events for adults, 139 events for teens, and 258 events for children, in addition to taking more than 22,000 reference questions and lending almost 100,000 print items and just over 66,000 non-print items.

Our library is a busy place! But it would like to offer even more to the town of Madison ― more materials, more services, more programming, more technology. And to do that, the library needs an up-to-date facility and more space.

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, there is a referendum for Madison voters to approve a much-needed renovation and expansion of our library. A library appropriately sized to our town population equates to more space for study, meeting, browsing, and learning. Quiet reading areas will be distinct from group work spaces; both children and adults will enjoy improved material and display shelving; teens will utilize an expanded collection and multimedia program room; children will explore early literacy centers; and all patrons will be able to park adjacent to the new entrance.

Scranton Library Friends are proud to support programming at the library, and we now wholeheartedly extend our support to the effort to renovate and expand. We hope your readers will take every opportunity to learn about these exciting plans and join us on Feb. 7 to cast a vote for a project that has the reach and scope to enrich the life of every Madison resident for years to come.
