A World of Possibilities

Every day, something magical happens at the corner of Wall Street and Boston Post Road. As residents pass through the doors into Scranton Memorial Library, Route 1 is at their back, but before them lie roads leading to a world of possibilities: a travel guide to make the most of a life-long dream journey; a mystery that explores the darkest crimes; a computer that accesses an email from an oldest and dearest friend or a job database when it’s time for a change; the book that first opens a child’s eyes to a lifetime of both enjoyment and learning; a musical performance that transports the listeners; and not as much fun but necessary, especially at this time of year, tax information and forms.

Throughout this month, Madison residents will have a number of opportunities to learn about the library’s plans to renovate and expand at presentations given in a number of locations and at various times by Library Director Beth Crowley. Current plans include meetings at the Senior Center, in the community room at the library, and to assorted civic groups. I encourage residents to take advantage of attending one of these presentations, to pick up a copy of the project brochure, or to view the architectural model and renderings on display in the library.

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, Madison residents will be asked to vote in a referendum on town funding of the building project. I hope residents will seize every opportunity to educate themselves about the project and be inspired to cast a vote that has the power to cast a magic spell for generations of library users.
