Can and Should Be Done

Duffy Mudry’s Dec. 15 letter to the editor “Guilford’s Own Swim Team” is a welcome contribution.

Past efforts by Bill Meiselman and others to have a town facility in Bittner park, consisting of a kiddies pool, a rehab pool, a competitive pool with seating, and a recreational pool, all with dimensions to meet sate athletic requirements, met with defeat.

Defeat at the Guilford Board of Selectman was in the form of a “No” vote for a referendum after all the preconditions were met petitions, signatures, and such. This is all in the public record.

The Swimming Pool Committee still exists, but is buried. Bringing it back to life requires a strong effort by all the citizens of Guilford, not only the parents of the school children not getting this great experience, but our folks with all physical conditions, all 500 hundred-mile swimmers, and mostly the fun people who will enjoy the pool from cradle to grave, 365 days a year.

This can be done and should be done. Bill Meiselman was right on it then and would still be, if he was alive.
