Never Too Late to Say Thank You

The members of Post 48 of the American Legion would like to thank the Guilford schools, their faculty, and the kids, for honoring veterans on this past Veterans Day.

Most of our members took part in the traditional ceremony on the Green, which included our Color Guard and the laying of the wreath at the World War I Memorial (a ceremony that also honors all Guilford war dead who had their lives cut short, forever young, never to grow old a veteran).

Throughout the course of that day, we did manage to participate in some panel discussions and other activities held by Guilford schools. Our day ended at the Community Center and with the traditional (free for veterans) lasagna dinner, for which thanks go to Larry Santamaria and Meals on Wheels.

My most memorable part of that day was a demonstration by the kids of Calvin Leete Elementary School. They walked all the way from their school to the Green as their way of honoring Veterans Day, and they also gave a pronounced presentation of song and patriotism. Thanks go to Calvin Leete. They’re the best!
