Doing Some Remarkable Things

How often do we hear or even say the expression “we need to set a good example for the children”? I want to tell you about some children we probably could learn some lessons from. They are some of our own Clinton children, and they are doing some remarkable things.

The first group is from Joel School. They recently had their fall food drive to benefit Families Helping Families. The entire staff and children at Joel have made a commitment to this event for many years, and they have raised thousands upon thousands pounds of food for Clinton families. One year I questioned if they were going to hold the food drive and the answer was a resounding “of course we are committed to this event.” The lessons in sharing with and caring about others are not part of the official courses of study at Joel. They have become bigger than a single course; it has become part of the culture and fabric of the Joel School. These lessons have been learned well—which leads us to the second group.

The students at The Morgan School, along with the faculty, alumni, and members of Partners in Community and REACT as well as Clinton’s own Fire Department and Police Department, held an event called Dodge for a Difference. What a difference they made! They raised more than $2,400 for Families Helping Families. These funds will help us to continue our five community out-reach programs in 2017.

So I hope this will give you some insight as to what some of our Clinton children are doing to help other Clinton families who are experiencing some very difficult times. I don’t think we need to set an example for them. I think they are the ones who are setting the example—hopefully all will follow them.
