Has None of That

Having grown up in a truly bicycling country, Denmark, where cycling is not just for fun but for transportation of adults, children, babies, groceries, and equipment, I know what’s required to let cars, bikes, and pedestrians co-exist safely. The key words are planning, separation, and enough space. The Shoreline Greenway Trail (SGT) has none of that.

It doesn’t work to suddenly squeeze the three groups together on too little space and just hope for the best. It’s very irresponsible. A project like SGT requires serious, competent, experienced planning. If the trail proponents had done that, they would soon have learned that the proposed path is totally unsuited to what they have in mind. Let’s accept the fact that Guilford does not have a bike trail because it’s a very old town that has developed over the years with no thought to bicycles.

The word “grant” keeps popping up as if that takes care of everything and is just Monopoly money. It’s our tax money! How can they justify spending so much for so little and at the same time keep the people of Guilford in the dark about the details?
