Need Professional Managers

Every one of us is rightly concerned about the effect the budget problems in Hartford will have on our towns. State budget deficits look like they will be with us for a long time. Small towns will get less from Hartford, and we will be forced to take on more of the financial burden of providing vital services. As a present selectman in Chester, I know the budget problem is the number-one issue facing us today.

I’m voting for Norm Needleman (D) for 33rd District State Senate, and Phil Miller (D-36) for state representative. They are qualified and both have the experience necessary to figure out how to minimize the impact of the state budget on our local taxes. In fact, I believe what happens in Hartford and the budget is the biggest issue in this election.

Debates have occurred and we have listened to what the candidates have to say. Clearly, Norm Needleman and Phil Miller give us a great chance to minimize the impact of budget gaps in Hartford. The reason is simple. Both have proven records reflected by their service as first selectman in Essex. Essex taxes remain among the lowest in the state. Both have successfully balanced budgets. Support from Hartford has receded every year, yet town services remain great. Both have taken responsibility for managing money and actually making the budgets work.

Their knowledge and proven experience is what is needed. Together Norm and Phil can work together providing strong representation together to protect our values and towns sustainability. In light of what’s coming down the road, we need professional managers like Norm and Phil to represent us in Hartford. That is why I support them both, and encourage my fellow area residents to join me in voting for Norm and Phil on Election Day.
