Lift Connecticut Up

With children in Connecticut, I am often concerned about the direction our state is going. Connecticut has one of the lowest youth retention rates in the nation while also having one of the highest percentages of young people living with their parents. Our state cannot survive unless it has a strong young workforce with plans to buy homes and start families in our region.

State Senator Art Linares, Jr. (R-33) and State Representative Devin Carney (R-23) have worked hard to lift Connecticut up and make it more attractive to businesses and young people.

One of the greatest draws to our area are our wonderful school systems. Art and Devin are both products of schools they represent (Art in Westbrook, Devin in Old Saybrook), so they understand, firsthand, the challenges these schools face and also the high quality education they deliver. They have consistently worked with our superintendents to push back against unfunded mandates and against overly burdensome testing that take away from our kid’s learning experience.

Art and Devin have also pushed to make Connecticut more business friendly. They have proposed eliminating the business entity tax, supported efforts to make it easier for new businesses to get off the ground, and have encouraged more school-to-career programs in manufacturing and trades. These are the types of ideas that will attract companies to our state and expand job opportunities. When young people get jobs, they have the ability to buy homes and start families.

It makes me and my family happy knowing that Art and Devin are working hard in Hartford for our future. I encourage your readers to join me in supporting them on Nov. 8.
