Interested in What’s Happening

I have known State Senator Ted Kennedy, Jr. (D-12) for more than 20 years in various relationships: friend, neighbor, law firm colleague, and constituent. He’s a remarkable man—intelligent, compassionate, creative, fair and hard-working. His accomplishments over the last two years as a state senator have benefited not only the 12th District but the entire state.

I’ve been especially impressed by Ted’s environmental record. Not surprisingly given his education at the Yale School of Forestry, Ted has served as chair of the Senate Environmental Committee. In that capacity he’s been responsible for passage of nearly 40 bills with bipartisan support. Among these are significant legislation protecting pollinating bees by reducing the use of harmful pesticides and providing for state planting of vegetation beneficial to bees; banning pesticide use on municipal playgrounds; establishing a farm-to-school program that facilitates the purchase of healthy Connecticut farm products by school cafeterias; and reducing consumer packaging waste including plastic bags and containers.

Ted has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of both 12th District residents and all Connecticut residents. For example, Ted supported the recent successful effort to keep Sikorsky in Connecticut until 2032. Sikorsky is committed to add at least 8,000 new jobs and to substantially increase spending with its network of Connecticut suppliers—including four in the 12th District. Ted also was instrumental in obtaining a $500,000 state grant for construction of a new Indian Neck firehouse and helped Guilford obtain a $20,000 state grant to limit invasive weed growth at Lake Quonnipaug.

Ted is always interested in what’s happening in the 12th District. He’s a familiar figure at civic meetings, charity benefits, exhibit openings, parades, business celebrations and other events. I sometimes wonder if he ever sleeps!

I encourage your readers to join me in re-electing Ted Kennedy to the State Senate.
