Understand the Problems

Under the Malloy administration and a Democrat-controlled legislature, Connecticut has become one of the worst states for businesses, ranking 47th out of 50, according to Kiplinger. To exemplify the problem this causes, to keep Sikorsky in Stratford, Malloy had to offer a $220 million bribe in financial incentives.

It has become difficult for young people to stay because the cost of living is so high with a problematic CNBC ranking of 46th.

Regarding retirees, Connecticut is near the bottom again, coming in at Kiplinger’s #4 as one of the worst states for elders. Connecticut taxes Social Security benefits and pensions, not to mention levying an estate tax, which becomes a huge financial burden for children inheriting a family business or farm. Is it any wonder retirees leave in droves to find a more retiree-friendly state? Economically it didn’t make sense for them—and it doesn’t make sense for Connecticut either.

In spite of all this, some Democrats, rather than try to make the tough decisions needed to help businesses and give some relief to taxpayers, continue to look at more sources of revenue such as tolls and/or a mileage tax. They just don’t get it!

State Senator Art Linares, Jr. (R-33) and 36th District state representative candidate Bob Siegrist (R) understand the problems. They want to tackle the budget and cut unnecessary spending, renegotiate state pensions that currently are unsustainable, and lessen the taxes and regulations that stifle businesses. We need Republicans in the legislature to clean up the mess, get Connecticut back on solid financial ground, make Connecticut appealing for new businesses and young people, and have established businesses prefer to stay rather than to have to be bribed.

I encourage your readers to vote for Art Linares and Bob Siegrist to help bring Connecticut back to the top.
