Experience, Knowledge, and Compassion

As a member of the Essex Board of Selectmen, I have had the honor of working with Norm Needleman on a daily basis. It is safe to say that in my three terms as selectman, I’ve come to know Norm very well. I have seen firsthand that he is fair, inclusive, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to doing the right thing for the people he represents. He makes decisions with the best interests of our community in mind, and never based on political considerations.

As Norm’s running mate, it might seem that my views are based on party loyalty. Nothing could be further from the truth. I was a Republican for the majority of my adult life. I watched the party drift away from the values that I believed were most important: open mindedness, fairness, and commitment to representing the best interests of people from every level of society. It was these values, held by Norm, that led me to be his running mate and become a Democrat. I saw in him the experience, knowledge, and compassion that should characterize all of our elected officials.

Six years of working in town government with Norm has strengthened my belief that he will quickly become a leading voice in the State Senate, a position that will benefit everyone in our district, and everyone in the state.
