Animal Rights Allegiance

As a member of Connecticut Votes for Animals, I am notified of upcoming bills in the State Assembly that concern the welfare of animals. I always read these bills with interest and observe the role our legislators play in supporting these bills.

In the last term in which State Senator Ted Kennedy, Jr. (D-12) served, he voted to approve increasing the maximum penalty for persons convicted of intentional animal cruelty. Among the bills he supported is one that addresses the use of animal advocates in certain legal proceedings relating to neglected or cruelly treated animals. Senator Kennedy voted to deter the use of cats and dogs in conducting certain research and testing of products.

Branford Garden Club members as well as most of our town residents have been concerned about the loss of bees and other pollinations in our environment. Senator Kennedy co-sponsored a bill that would implement state and private actions aimed at protecting pollination population through restrictions on the use of neonicotinoid, and the increase in preservation of pollinator habitats.

The very firm animal rights allegiance Senator Kennedy has demonstrated is one of the reasons I support his reelection.
