Two Dedicated Voices

I attended the Westbrook Council of Beaches forum and was very impressed with both our State Representative Devin Carney (R-23)and our State Senator Art Linares, Jr. (R-33). It is good for shoreline Westbrook residents that we have two very dedicated voices in Hartford who go to bat for us on important issues related to our community.

Tourism and the marine industry are two of the most vital parts of shoreline Westbrook’s economy and Art and Devin have both worked hard in those areas. They pushed back against a bill that would have held up the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers from going forward with a bipartisan-supported federal plan to dredge the Long Island Sound (a project that our marinas and many regional businesses, including Electric Boat, depend on) and were successful. They both co-founded the new tourism caucus, which partners with the tourism industry, including businesses like Water’s Edge, to make sure it is competitive and can thrive, which is positive for the local economy. In addition, both have fought against policies that are detrimental to our small towns, including defeating a state proposal that would have raised our car taxes.

We need them in Hartford working for us and working to improve our economy. Let’s send them back on Nov. 8.
