Education a Top Priority

As East Haven’s state representative, James Albis (D-99) has been a strong advocate for our town’s schools. His record of improving educational opportunities in East Haven is deserving of another two years representing us at the Capitol.

Last year James helped to secure almost $300,000 in state funding to create an additional two Smart Start preschool classrooms in East Haven, serving 30 students in total. Being able to provide preschool for more children means that our kids are more likely to start school on an equal footing.

James was also a strong proponent of the creation of the school-based health center at Momauguin Elementary School, helping to put together the policies and state funds to make the project a reality. The health center ensures that children receive medical services in a timely manner and reduces absenteeism.

Then, when district officials in New Haven proposed charging the Town of East Haven tuition for our children who attend New Haven magnet schools, James led the charge in the House by introducing and passing a bipartisan amendment to prevent New Haven from billing East Haven’s taxpayers more than $250,000.

It is clear that James has the best interests of our community at heart. Both the preschool spots and health center improve the quality of early childhood education in East Haven without burdening the town’s taxpayers. James makes education a top priority in his work in the legislature and East Haven’s school system has benefited from his service. I hope that anyone with a vested interest in our schools will join me in voting for James in November.
