Advocate for the Environment

As a physician trained in the cause and effects of human disease, I am particularly aware of the effects of toxic chemicals in our environment and their long-term effects on human health. Medical research has shown that children are particularly sensitive to the effects of toxic chemicals.

State Senator Ted Kennedy, Jr. (D-12) understands these dangers and as co-chair of the Environment Committee he has acted to protect Connecticut’s children where they are most likely to be involuntarily exposed at schools to toxic chemicals such as toxic lawn pesticides. He championed a bill that enhanced the notification of parents of the use of toxic pesticides at public and private schools, and he supports legislation to eliminate the use of crumb and shredded rubber from tires (that contains many toxic chemicals) in children’s public playgrounds.

According to Alex Palluzzi, director of Parks & Recreation in Branford (a town in Senator Kennedy’s district), all its public athletic fields have been maintained without the use of toxic pesticides for more than seven years and now look better than they ever did when these pesticides were used!

Senator Kennedy is a strong advocate for the environment in other ways, from protecting Long Island Sound to creating new jobs by increasing the use of renewable energy in Connecticut.

Obviously I support Senator Kennedy’s reelection and hope your readers do, too.
