Thinking, Responsible Representatives

On Nov. 8 we have a momentous decision to make as voters, other than the president. We also vote for state representative and state senator. In some ways these votes are more important as they are closer to home. Our largely dysfunctional state government affects us more directly and must be reined in. Due to one-party rule in Hartford, we have seen a string of massive budget deficits followed by gigantic tax increases. We need representatives in our legislature that will fight to bring fiscal sanity to Hartford. That is why I am supporting Jesse MacLachlan (R-35) for state representative and Art Linares, Jr. (R-33) for State Senate.

The troubles in Hartford are so widespread it is hard to know where to start. Problems range from deficits to tax increases to unfunded pension liabilities to a Department of Motor Vehicles that had to shut down while reporting registered vehicles in the wrong towns. We need representatives who have and will fight this debacle caused by arrogant, one-party rule at the state level. If you need more proof, the flight of people and companies from Connecticut should do it. Instead of reducing spending so we could reduce taxes for all, we paid Pratt & Whitney and Sikorsky to stay. The largest blow was GE, which said “No” to Governor Dannel Malloy’s offered bribe, leaving. The bleeding must stop now.

We all have to live within our means and so should Connecticut. We have created an anchor to toss to our children and grandchildren who may have no choice but to leave. These are some of the reasons why we need to place thinking, responsible representatives in our State Legislature. This is why I am voting for Jesse MacLachlan and Art Linares, Jr., and hope that your readers do the same.
