Inventive and Inspiring

I am exceptionally proud to be a citizen of Old Saybrook, the community that recently honored, in an inventive and inspiring way, the nearly 3,000 humans who died on Sept. 11, 2001. I also am grateful to the Old Saybrook firefighters who were among the emergency forces that rushed 15 years ago to support an exceedingly difficult rescue and recovery effort.

My appreciation is deeply personal and everlasting. Our son’s college roommate, a New York City firefighter, along with the corporate emergency responder I long had partnered with and others I knew, were among the men and women who lost their lives on 9/11. Had I not recently been retired for medical reasons, I would have been among the casualties when the World Trade Center’s towers came down.

So I am privileged, by the grace of God, to still enjoy a quiet, pleasant, and contented life in Old Saybrook. I thank our town’s civic leaders, its first responders, and other anonymous citizens who gathered to erect the wonderful 9/11 commemorative display on Old Saybrook’s Town Green.
