Comparison is Ignorant and Misinformed

After reading Boguslaw Kot’s Sept. 8 letter “Incompatible with the Character” in regard to what he believes is an illegal hotel operating under the guise of a rooming/boarding house in a quiet, single-family residential neighborhood, I would like to make a few clarifications. First, having known the homeowner of the house in question for the better part of 20 years, I can tell you firsthand that neither description of the operation of this home is accurate.

This is not a hotel, a rooming/boarding house, or any part thereof. To compare it as such is ignorant and misinformed. This is someone who has two extra bedrooms where distinguished people of utmost respect stay or have stayed for short visits at a time. Never has there been a health or safety concern or threat of any kind from these traveling nurses, doctors, and people visiting their children at Yale. This is done one person or two at a time at the most in the privacy of ones’ own home.

Reading his version, one would visualize people hanging out, playing loud music, and leaving trash around. Nothing of this sort has ever been seen nor would it ever be allowed by the homeowner. In fact, when visiting the home, I have never even been aware that another person was there unless I was told! Several of these people have become friends. Should we run it by the town of East Haven or Mr. Kot when we have friends stay in our homes?

Perhaps if it were easier on our wallets to live in Connecticut, people wouldn’t resort to creative ways to pay their mortgages. Mr. Kot should get his facts straight.
