Outrageous, Vile, and Inaccurate

I’m appalled by the outrageous, vile, and inaccurate comments made by Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr., in the East Haven Courier concerning the special exception that was approved by the Planning & Zoning Commission [Aug. 18 letter “Ignored the Will of Residents”]. His comments were an attempt to create a false narrative on very complex zoning situation that came before the commission

This application was brought before the commission in July for review and to set public hearing. The commission voted unanimously to accept, with no issues expressed by legal staff. Mayor Maturo gets every piece of correspondence from the commission prior to any hearing. He expressed no concerns prior to any meeting regarding the South Dale Street application.

Having no regulations regarding a bed & breakfast or Airbnb, the commission under direction of Planning & Zoning legal staff approved the application under special exceptions regulations, along with extensive conditions imposed provided by staff.

It is evident by Maturo’s letter the Planning & Zoning Commission is now to approve or reject an application based on public opinion. This current commission will not do so and will continue to go by state statutes and municipal regulations.
