Very Positive Developments

I am heartened by some very positive developments in Chester.

Kudos go to our First Selectman Lauren Gister and her team for their strong efforts to improve communications and support businesses in town! They’ve encouraged citizens to sign up for the weekly Townwide Email Blast to keep abreast of town news and events (readers can sign-up at info@chesterct.org). They’ve initiated a program called “Town Talks” where you can meet with Lauren at varying locations around town several times each month to discuss whatever is on your mind. Most recently they’ve introduced business sector meetings to foster better communications and networking among residents and business owners. These sectors may include retail and restaurants, professional services, real estate and commercial property owners, home businesses, manufacturing, and more. They will be visiting local businesses to learn more about who they are, how they got here, and what they do and need. These businesses will be highlighted and/or showcased in some fashion. They are also exploring videotaping or broadcasting local governmental meetings to make them more accessible for individuals who, for whatever reason, can’t be physically present.

Kudos go to Chairman Susan Wright and her Economic Development Commission for their proactive approach to improving Chester’s economy. Most recently they organized a program entitled Fundamentals of Municipal Economic Development-A Transformational Approach presented by the Connecticut Economic Resource Center. It was an inspirational and highly encouraging meeting.

Kudos also go to Chester Sunday Market head Sue Hotkowski and her team for continuing to improve this wonderful tradition. One exciting addition this year was the introduction of the Chester Business Tent, which offers local businesses a chance to engage with market goers and publicize their good work.

As both a business owner and resident of Chester, I’m feeling the love!
